Drunk Driver Caught Near Stratford

(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) – On Saturday November 14, 2015 before 3 a.m. Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to a traffic complaint called in by a motorist who observed a north bound Mazda car being driven erratically on Perth Road 119 north of Stratford.

Officers patrolled the area and kept observation for the Mazda car when shortly before 3 a.m. the Mazda was observed driving through Brunner. The vehicle was pulled over by police and while speaking to the driver a determination was made that the driver was impaired by alcohol.

The male driver was arrested and transported to the Perth County OPP Detachment in Sebringville, where he failed two Intoxilyzer breath tests.

42-year-old Scott MCDONALD of the Township of Perth East has been charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences:

– Driving while ability impaired by alcohol

– Driving with more than 80mgs of alcohol in 100 ml of blood

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear and has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on November 30, 2015, where he will have to answer to the charges.

His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and his motor vehicle has been impounded for a period of seven days.

“With all the messaging and examples of how unacceptable, dangerous, and criminal impaired driving is, I find it difficult to understand that drivers would still get behind the wheel when they have been drinking alcohol. The Perth County OPP will continue their patrols and regular RIDE programs to stop these drivers and maintain safe roadways in our communities”.
