(Oro-Medonte, ON) – On Monday November 21, 2016 at 3:00PM a lone male driver attended the front desk at Barrie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police. He wanted to report a motor vehicle collision which occurred on Sunday November 20 at approximately 4:20 PM in the westbound lanes of HWY 9 east of HWY 27.
This was a two vehicle rear end collision in which slippery road conditions were given as the fault in the collision.
An odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected on this male driver’s breath. As a result he was arrested and a breath demand was made. He was given a breath test.
As a result of a police investigation the 56 year old male driver from Barrie was charged with care and control of a motor vehicle under section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.
Monday November 21, 2016 was the start of the Annual Festive R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign. The OPP reminds drivers that any amount of alcohol or other drug can impair one’s ability to drive. If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, take a taxi, stay overnight or take public transit. If the amount of alcohol or drug you consume is excessive then be sure to wait until it is all out of your system before driving.
