Drunk Driver Arrested After Speeding Out Of Brussels – Name Relased

(MORRIS-TURNBERRY, ON) – A 55-year-old male from Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh is facing an Over 80 charge following a traffic stop that took place early Sunday morning.

At approximately 3:15 a.m. on Sunday, May 7, 2017 Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers spotted a Ford pickup truck travelling west bound out of Brussels on Morris Road at a high rate of speed. Officers caught up to the pickup truck and were able to initiate a traffic stop at the intersection of Morris Road and Button Line.

While speaking with the male driver officers detected the odour of alcohol coming from the driver. A demand was given to the driver to supply a sample of his breath into an approved roadside screening device. The driver complied and his breath sample resulted in a Fail. He was placed under arrest for failing the roadside test and was immediately transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. He subsequently provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both of his samples registered over the legal limit.

As a result, 55-year-old Donald SOWERBY from Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle with Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. He has been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for May 29, 2017 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. He also received an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle has been impounded for the week.
