(HAMILTON TWP, ON) –On October 18, 2015 at 9:55pm Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a complaint of a motor vehicle collision on Dale Road. Witnesses reported that a grey Toyota Rav4 was originally stuck in a ditch at Ontario Street and Dale Road. The vehicle reportedly drove out of the ditch and struck a commercial building on Ontario Street causing significant damage to the structure. The business was closed and no one was inside. The vehicle then left the scene and hit a parked car in the process.
Police located the vehicle on Cornish Hollow Road which was stuck in another ditch. The officer determined that the uninjured female driver was impaired and arrested her. She was taken to the Cobourg detachment for further tests.
As a result of these tests, Valerie SMITH age 53 of Hamilton Township is charged with Impaired Care & Control of a motor vehicle and Care & Control of a motor vehicle while her blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. She was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on November 4, 2015.
