(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) – On Saturday September 10, 2016, shortly before 3 a.m., a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer conducted a traffic stop on a Honda Civic which was observed moving sharply towards the gravel shoulder and then back towards the centre line on Perth Line 88 west of Gowanstown.
The officer spoke with the female driver of the vehicle and grounds were obtained to administer a Standardized Field Sobriety Test. As a result of this test, the 44-year-old female driver, a Municipality of Brockton resident, was placed under arrest for impaired driving by drug. She was transported to the North Perth OPP Detachment in Listowel, where she was evaluated by an officer who is a qualified Drug Recognition Expert.
As a result of this evaluation, the female driver has been charged with “driving while ability impaired – motor vehicle (drug), contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. She was also found to be in possession of Marihuana and was therefore also charged with “possession of Cannabis Marihuana – under 30 grams”, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
She was released on a Promise to Appear (PTA) and is scheduled to answer to these charges at the Listowel Criminal Court of Justice on Wednesday October 19, 2016.
The public is urged to report impaired drivers. By reporting impaired and erratic drivers immediately, our communities will be safer places. Calls can be made to police at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
