(BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On 12 May 2016 at 11:55 p.m., the Bruce Peninsula Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), along with the Rescue Coordination Centre Trenton (RCC), the Ministry of Environment, and the Tobermory Harbour Master, received a report of a car which drove onto a boat launch and was submerged underwater, on Bay Street, Tobermory, in the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula.
Police investigation revealed the 23-year-old driver from Kitchener was following her GPS when she took a wrong turn, into Little Tub Harbour, Tobermory late last night. Weather conditions at the time showed it was raining, dark and foggy. Combing weather conditions and the driver being new to the area; a fully submerged vehicle was the result. The driver was able to roll down her window and swim approximately 30 meters to shore, in the 4 degree Celsius water and call for help.
The driver did not receive any injuries. The vehicle was towed out of the water at 8:22 a.m. early this morning, on May 13 2016. RCC along with the Tobermory Harbour Master have re-opened the boat launch.
