(Elgin County) – An 18 year old Thames Centre, ON man has been charged with Careless driving after being involved in a three vehicle collision last evening July 30, 2013.
The collision occurred just after 7pm on Highbury Avenue between Webber Bourne and Carr Rd, Central Elgin.
A 2008 Jeep Patriot being driven by the 18 year old Thames Centre man was travelling north on Highbury Avenue. A 2012 Honda CRV being driven by a 53 year old St.Thomas, ON woman and a 2013 Ford F150 Pick-up truck being driven by a 33 year old Central Elgin man were both travelling south on Highbury Ave.
At the time of the collision the 2008 Jeep Patriot crossed over the centre line while travelling around a curve and collided head on with the Honda CRV and then spun and struck the Ford F150 Truck which had been following the CRV. The Jeep suffered extensive damage and ended up coming to rest in the east ditch while the Honda which was also was heavily damaged came to rest in the west ditch. The Ford sustained moderate damage and came to rest in the west ditch as well.
Due to extensive damage the driver of the Honda CRV had to be extricated from the vehicle by Central Elgin Fire Services and was transported along with the driver of the Jeep to London Health Sciences Centre via land ambulance. It was later determined that they had suffered only minor injuries.
The driver of the Ford Truck was not injured in the collision.
As a result of the investigation police have charged Jeremy NOPPER age 18 of Thames Centre with Careless Driving under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.
Highbury Avenue was closed and traffic re-routed for approximately 2 hours.
