Driver Charged In Hit And Run

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – The City of Kawartha Lakes detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating a motor vehicle collision involving a bicycle.

At approximately 8:00a.m. on April 30, 2015 a cyclist was travelling northbound on Sturgeon Point Road, between Golf Links Road and Irene Avenue when he was struck from behind by a motor vehicle. The vehicle did not remain at the scene. The male was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

Investigation revealed that the involved vehicle is a full sized pickup truck, blue in colour that had a red piece of equipment in the back at the time of the collision. The vehicle may have damage to the front right corner and the passenger side mirror.

Additional information relating to the above collision came forward in September of 2016. As a result, George MAXWELL, 45 years of age of Saugeen Shores, is now charged with the following offences:

Driving While Disqualified contrary to section 259(4) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)

Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to section 249(1)(a) CCC

Fail to Stop at Scene of Accident contrary to section 252 CCC

The accused has been held in custody pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay.
