Driver Charged In Collision That Closed Hwy 3

(ESSEX, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver involved in a multi-vehicle crash that occurred April 27, 2016 at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Highway 3, east of Essex County Road 23 in Essex, Ontario.

A GMC pickup truck was hauling a utility trailer travelling westbound on Highway 3 when it struck the rear of another vehicle setting off a chain reaction resulting in 2 vehicles being struck head on which were travelling in the oncoming eastbound lanes.

Diana PEPPER, age 67 of Leamington who was a rear passenger in one of the involved vehicles succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

In addition, 6 people in total were taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Decio MARQUES, age 30 of Kingsville, Ontario was the operator of the GMC pickup truck and has been charged with Careless Driving, contrary to Section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.
