(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) On February 11, 2014, a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was conducting RADAR enforcement on Highway 401 near Harwich Road.
Just after 9:00 p.m., the officer observed an eastbound Pontiac vehicle that appeared to be exceeding the posted speed limit of 100 km/hr. The RADAR registered a speed of 146 km/hr.
The OPP officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop of the vehicle, however, the vehicle failed to stop. The OPP officer’s efforts to safely stop the vehicle continued for a few kilometres until the vehicle finally stopped for the officer. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
The driver, 51 year old Guan Hao CHEN, from Toronto, ON, was charged with the following:
Fail To Stop For Police, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
Speeding, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
Fail To Surrender Permit For Motor Vehicle, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
Fail To Surrender Insurance Card, under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act
The male is scheduled to appear in a Chatham court on March 19, 2014, to answer to the charges.
