(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment has charged a 36-year-old male after police stopped the vehicle at a Concession 3, Townsend, Norfolk County, Ontario address.
On Friday, May 6, 2016 at approximately 8:55 a.m., a Norfolk County officer had a vehicle stopped on the side of the roadway at a Cockshutt Road address between Concession 2 and Jenkins Road. While dealing the driver of the stopped vehicle, the officer observed a vehicle failing to slow down as it approached the area.
As the vehicle approached and passed, the side view mirror brushed the officers back while they were standing on the roadway.
The vehicle was subsequently stopped at a Concession 3, Townsend address.
As a result, police have charged 36-year-old Gordon YULE of Brantford, Ontario with fail to slow down for emergency motor vehicle and proceed with caution contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
“The law [Highway Traffic Act Section 159 (2)(3)] requires drivers to slow down and proceed with caution when approaching an emergency vehicle parked on the side of the highway with its lights activated. If the highway has more than one lane, the law requires the driver to move over and leave one lane between their vehicle and the parked emergency vehicle when it can be done safely. Failure to do so can result in fines from $400 to $2,000 and three demerit points for a first offence,” comments Constable Ed Sanchuk, Norfolk County OPP Detachment.
