(THAMES CENTRE, ON) – On January 16, 2018, at approximately 2:30 p.m., members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Thames Centre Fire Department and the Middlesex-London Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a motor vehicle collision near a train crossing located on Elgin Road, north of Crampton Drive, Thames Centre.
The investigation has revealed that the driver of a pick-up truck traveling southbound on Elgin Road came to stop at the railway crossing after noticing the train warning lights were activated. The pickup truck was subsequently rear-ended by a southbound commercial transport truck.
The pick-up truck was pushed across the tracks. The commercial transport truck jackknifed and became disabled in a ditch.
The train operators became aware of the collision and stopped the train prior to reaching Elgin Road.
The 24-year-old, male driver of the pick-up was transported to hospital via land ambulance with minor injuries.
The driver of the transport truck also suffered minor injuries.
Elgin Road, between Mossley Drive and Crampton Drive was closed for approximately two (2) hours to allow for the removal of the damaged vehicles.
As a result of the police investigation, 32-year-old male, Adam BEATTY of Hamilton, Ontario has been charged with Careless Driving, pursuant to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).
