Driver Arrested For Refusing To Blow

(GODERICH, ON) – A 48-year-old from Warwick Township is facing criminal charges after he was recently pulled over by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

On October 18, 2019 at approximately 3:45 p.m. Huron OPP officers received two traffic complaints about an erratic driver that was operating a Jeep on Bluewater Veteran’s Highway (Highway 21) near Goderich. Shortly thereafter the investigating officer located the suspect vehicle parked on Bennett Street in the Town of Goderich. Upon checking on the vehicle the officer located a male sitting in the driver’s seat. Upon speaking with the male several signs of impairment were observed. As such the driver was placed under arrest for Impaired Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle.

He was subsequently transported to the Huron OPP Detachment where he was directed to provide a breath sample to the Intoxilizer Technician. Ultimately the driver refused to provide breath samples so he was also charged with this offence. Further, it was revealed the driver was currently on conditions to abstain from alcohol.

Jeffery THOMSON, 48 years of age, from Warwick Township has been charged with Operation While Impaired, Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand and Fail to Comply with Conditions of Undertaking. He was later released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for November 4, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

His vehicle was towed and his driver’s licence has been suspended for an automatic 90 days.
