Downed Aircraft Update: Deceased Indentified

(WHITNEY, ON) – On November 11, 2014 at approximately 8:30pm, an aircraft contacted the Toronto Area Control Centre and advised they had an airborne emergency. Shortly after, communication was lost.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) was notified and an air and ground search were launched. ‎JRCC Search and Rescue Technicians and Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Emergency Response Team (ERT) and uniform officers attended the scene, approximately 20 kms south/west of Whitney, ON in a dense bush/treed area within Algonquin Park.

At approximately 4:40am the crash site was located. The pilot, Logesh LAKSHMIKANTHAN, 25 and his passenger, Ravindran ARULANANDAR, 31, both of North York died at the scene. Post mortem results indicate that both men died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

With assistance of the Transportation Safety Board, the cause of the crash has been determined to be as a result of running out of fuel.
