Double Fatal On County Road 43

(Kemptville, ON.) – Grenville County Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a fatal collision west of Kemptville.

Shortly after 5:00 pm, a Hyundai was travelling westbound on County Road 43, east of the Meadowglen Circle intersection. A vehicle was stopped in the westbound lane waiting to make a left turn onto Meadowglen Circle. A second vehicle was stationary behind the waiting vehicle. The Hyundai entered the eastbound lane to avoid colliding with the stationary vehicles and struck the front driver’s side of a Buick travelling in the eastbound lane.

Marian McFadden, age 76 of Smiths Falls was in the rear passenger seat of the Buick and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Jacqueline Jefferys, age 78 of Burritts Rapids was also in the rear passenger seat of the Buick and was pronounced deceased at Kemptville District Hospital. The driver of the Buick, John McFadden, age 72 of Smiths Falls and the front passenger, James, Howard Jefferys, age 78 of Burritts Rapids were transported by ambulance to Ottawa Hospital in serious but stable condition.

The driver of the Hyundai, Jennifer Anne Cooke, age 18 of Kemptville was transported by ambulance to Ottawa Civic Hospital in serious condition. Clare Cooke, age 20 of Kemptville was a passenger in the Hyundai and was airlifted to Ottawa Civic Hospital in serious condition.

County Road 43 at Meadowglen Circle remains closed until further notice. The investigation is ongoing.
