(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment investigated an incident at a Victoria Street, Simcoe, Norfolk County, Ontario address.
On Monday, March 16, 2015 at approximately 11:43 a.m., police received a call from a concerned resident after an unknown male called their residence. The male advised that he was from Microsoft and that he had received an online message indicating that the resident’s computer was infected with a virus.
Access was granted to the unknown individual to remotely access the computer. A credit card number was provided to the unknown individual and police are warning all residents to protect their information.
Computer users are reminded, that unless you initiate the call, do not allow anyone access to your computer. Don’t give out personal, banking or credit card information to anyone unless you are sure of whom you are dealing with.
