(Gravenhurst, ON) – On Friday May 29th, 2015 at 4:00 a.m., a member of Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 11 South near Pinedale Road in Gravenhurst after noticing a vehicle driving in a very odd manner, speeding and swerving on the highway.
After stopping his vehicle, the driver fled on foot across the highway and into the bush. The OPP K-9 unit and Emergency Response Team (ERT) members were called and were successful in tracking the driver to Bethune Drive South, where he was arrested and taken into custody.
35 year-old Donald Dagenais of Hamilton, ON has been charged with
· Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle CC253(1)(a)
· Over 80 CC 253(1)(b)
· Theft of a Motor Vehicle CC 333.1
· Resist Peace Officer CC 129(a)
· Obstruct Peace Officer CC129(a)
· Possession of a Schedule II Substance CDSA 4(1)
· Race a Motor Vehicle HTA 172(1)
· Driving While Under Suspension HTA 53(1)
Dagenais was held for Bail, remains in custody and will appear next in Bracebridge Criminal Court on June 16th, 2015 to answer to the charges.
