Barrie Police received a 9-1-1 call for what appeared to the caller to be a domestic occurring in behind the mall on Bayfield Street, near Coulter Street. This was after 11 o’clock tonight. The 17 year old female victim was fighting with her 20 year old boyfriend. He was extremely verbally abusive and this escalated to him throwing her up against a tree. As police started to arrive, the accused male ran off on foot, only to enter into an apartment building, where he was not welcome. He was in an apartment earlier and threw items around the apartment and breaking an ashtray.
The 20 year old man was arrested and taken into custody. He continuously smashed his head against the partition in the police car, making himself bleed. He was taken to the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre where he was attended to medically despite the fact that he was not behaving in a rational manner, as he was loud and unable to follow direction and sit still.
Investigating officers determined that he was also currently breaching the conditions of his Probation by not being good and keeping the peace. He was taking into custody and held for bail hearing on September 4th in answer to the charges. The female victim had very minor scratches and did not require medical attention as a result of this occurrence.
