DNA RESULTS IN ARREST OF LOCAL MALE

(CALEDON, ON) – On August 31st, 2009, officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a break and enter into a home under construction on Finnerty Side Road. At that time, it was reported that the suspect(s) gained entry into the garage, disabled the alarm and stole approximately $50,000 worth of appliances. While at the residence, the suspect(s) caused extensive damage to the new construction. During the course of the investigation, officers seized a soda pop can and a water bottle for DNA analysis. Once the samples were collected, they were forwarded to the Centre of Forensic Sciences.

Investigation has revealed that the suspect in this break and enter was arrested in another jurisdiction and he was court ordered to provide a DNA sample. A confirmed match between the DNA sample taken at the scene of the break and enter and the court ordered sample resulted in a confirmed identity.

As a result of the lengthy investigation, the accused Ryan DEHART, 41, from Caledon was arrested and charged with Break and Enter and Mischief Over $5,000.00.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on September 4th, 2014.
