Distracted Driving Enforcement Continues

(MUNICIPALITY OF GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – On Friday, August 22, 2014, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Highway Safety Division – Mount Forest Traffic Management Unit conducted distracted driving enforcement on Hwy. 10 north of Grey Rd. 4 (Flesherton) in the Municipality of Grey Highlands.

Within a five hour period, police charged 11 drivers with distracted driving under the Highway Traffic Act after they were observed using their cell phones.

Last Friday, August 15th, police had charged nine (9) drivers within a 3 hour period for distracted driving.

The OPP recognizes that the only way to stop people from dying in distracted driving related collisions is to raise awareness of how serious the problem is and to have everyone make a firm, lifelong commitment to helping the police and safety partners eliminate it altogether.

The OPP remind motorists that the current distracted driving fine is $280 which includes the fine of $225 plus a $50 victim surcharge fine and $5 court cost.
