Distracted Driver Narrowly Misses Packed School Bus

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County detachment is urging all drivers to put their cellular phones away and to put safety as a priority after police investigated an incident at a La Salette, Windham, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Friday, March 31, 2017 at approximately 2:09 p.m., police were contacted by a concerned school bus driver reporting that a pickup almost collided with a school bus full of children.

Through the course of investigation, it was determined that a male operating a white or light coloured Ford pickup truck was travelling on La Salette Road when the driver almost collided with the bus. Witnesses have indicated that the driver was fully engaged in the use of his cellular phone.

No collision occurred and no injuries were reported as a result of this incident.

Police are reminding all motor vehicle operators to put away the technology and focus all of their attention on the roadway when getting behind the wheel. Texting or talking on your cell phone jeopardizes everyone’s safety
