(BLUEWATER, ON) – Travelling at nearly double the speed limit was a poor decision for a 26 year old driver early Sunday morning. A few minutes after midnight on Sunday, December 8, 2013 a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer spotted a Dodge Avenger speeding eastbound on Zurich-Hensall Road. A check on the speed with a police radar device revealed the driver’s speed to be 173 km/h in a posted 90 km/h zone. The vehicle was stopped whereupon the driver informed the officer that he was trying to make it home quickly. Further checks by the officer revealed the validation sticker on the licence plate to be expired.
Derek DIETRICH, 26, from Bluewater was charged with Race a Motor Vehicle and Drive Motor Vehicle with No Validation on Plate. He has a court appearance scheduled for February 18, 2013 at Provincial Offences Court in Goderich to answer to the charges. His driver’s licence has been seized for seven days and his vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
