(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment want to alert all Norfolk County residents after police investigated an incident at a Hillcrest Avenue, Simcoe, Norfolk County, Ontario address.
On Monday, November 10, 2014 at approximately 3:22 p.m., police received a call from a concerned resident after an unknown male contacted their residence advising the homeowner of an outstanding debt that was due. The male insisted that payment be made immediately or criminal charges were going to be filed with their local police service.
Through investigation it was determined that the unknown male contacted the residence between Friday, November 7, 2014 and Monday, November 10, 2014. Through the course of conversation the unknown male indicated that there was an outstanding balance that has been owed for a long period of time. Approximately $14,000 dollars was sent to an address in LaSalle Quebec at which time the resident received several other calls requesting further funds. The homeowner became suspicious and contacted police.
Police are reminding all residents to be extremely vigilant if you should receive a phone call from anyone claiming that you have an outstanding balance or debt owing.
