(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH SOUTH, ON) On October 02, 2013 Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were called to Downie Central School along Perth Line 20 near St.Pauls when it was discovered that copper had been stolen from the roof.
Investigation revealed that sometime between the evening of Tuesday October 01, 2013 and the morning hours of Wednesday October 02, 2013 culprits removed 75, 2’X3’ sheets of copper roofing material from the roof structure of the school. Damage to the school is estimated to be in excess of $15,000.00
The Perth County OPP Crime Unit with the assistance of the OPP West Region Criminal Investigation Unit, located the copper roofing material at metal recycling company in Kitchener, two suspects were identified.
David SPIES (36) of Kitchener and Stephen WITTER (43) of Kitchener have been charged with; â€Âtheft over $5,000.00â€Â, “mischief over $5,000.00â€Â, and “possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.00â€Â. Both males are scheduled to appear on October 28, 2013, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford to answer to these charges.
