(Ottawa, ON) -The Ottawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police has charged a driver of a motor vehicle after a collision that occurred on Highway 417 eastbound near Palladium Drive.
On September 11, 2013, at approximately 6:00 pm, a car travelling at a high rate of speed eastbound on Highway 417 lost control and hit the barrier wall separating the highway and the construction zone. The car missed the entrance to the construction zone where workers were present.
The investigation revealed that the driver had been drinking and had open liquor in the vehicle. The driver was not injured.
The male driver, 39 year old Darrell WARNER of Nova Scotia, was charged with impaired driving, operating a motor vehicle while over 80 mgs of alcohol and dangerous driving and is scheduled to appear in Ottawa court on October 3, 2013. He is also charged with having an open container of liquor.
The collision in under investigation and the OPP is asking anyone who may have any information in relation to this collision to contact the detachment at 613-270-9171.
Police would like to remind drivers about the reduced speed limits in the construction zones on the highway and that construction workers can be present at all hours of the day.
