(NORWICH TOWNSHIP, ON.) – On Wednesday May 4, 2016 at approximately
1:50 p.m., Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to assist at a residential structure fire on John Street in Otterville. A passerby had noticed smoke coming from the structure and called for help. The Township of Norwich Fire Department attended the scene and extinguished the fire.
The homeowner was not home at the time of the fire, and there were no injuries reported. Damage is estimated at approximately $30,000 to $40,000.
The Ontario Fire Marshal was contacted and attended the scene.
Through investigation, police have now arrested and charged Daniel MARTIN, 52-years-old of Norwich Township with the following:
Arson-Damage to Property – contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
He was released on a Promise to Appear and an Officer in Charge Undertaking with a future court date.
The investigation is continuing.
