On August 4, 2014, at 1:04pm several residents of an apartment building on Weber St W in Kitchener contacted emergency services, reporting a strong odor they believed was chemical in nature. Waterloo Regional Police, Waterloo Regional Emergency Medical Services and the Kitchener Fire Department responded to the call. The building was cleared by the Kitchener Fire Department. A section of Weber St W was shut down as the Fire Department conducted an investigation into the source of the odor and a Grand River Transit bus was used to assist the occupants of the building. At this time the cause of the odor is unknown and the building was deemed safe by the Fire Department for all residents to return.
