(PERTH COUNTY, ON) – During this year’s federal election campaign the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has received calls about damaged or tampered election signs. The damage is not specific to one particular candidate within Perth County.
Sometime during the day, on Thursday September 10, 2015, a small number of election signs between Stratford and Shakespeare were smashed and had support posts bent.
The OPP wants to remind the public that it is a criminal offence to damage or tamper with election signs. Anyone doing so without authority could be criminally charged with theft under $5,000 or mischief under $5000, and have to attend court to answer to their charge.
The Perth County OPP is continuing to investigate this incident and would like to hear from anyone with information regarding the damage of signs along Hwy 8 between Stratford and Shakespeare, or who witnesses the theft or damaging of posted election signs within Perth County.
