The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 131 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Seven people were arrested and two were held for a bail hearing.
Domestic Assault
On April 3, 2015, Chatham-Kent Police attended an address in Ridgetown to speak to a male in regards to an incident. He was not at his residence, but the female who answered the door was observed having two black eyes, and other visible bruising. The officer questioned the female, but she became uncooperative, closing the door, walking away and not responding to the officer’s multiple attempts to get her attention. The officer re-attended multiple times, but the female would not speak to him.
On April 4, 2015, the same officer attended the Ridgetown address again, but this time with a supervising officer. The female still refused to allow Police inside, but Police sensed that she did wish some assistance, as she implied that she was being abused by the man she was residing with. After much conversation, Police were able to gather enough evidence to identify the man and form grounds for Domestic Assault. Although the victim in the matter would not provide a formal statement, or cooperate to have photographs taken, she provided Police with enough evidence to lay a criminal charge.
The 42 year old Ridgetown man was later arrested and held in custody, pending bail hearing
Uttering Threats
On April 4, 2015, Chatham-Kent Police attended a business on King St, Chatham. After speaking with the complainant and viewing surveillance footage, it was learned that a man attended the area earlier with his pit bull. After being told to leave the property with his dog, he became irate while bringing his dog forward, and threatened to have his dog attack the victim.
Police located and arrested the 32 year old Chatham man for Uttering Threats to cause Bodily Harm. He was later released with a future court date and conditions not to attend the place of business or communicate with the victim.
