Cruiser Involved In Collision – SIU Invokes Mandate

(FRONT OF LEEDS AND THOUSAND ISLAND TOWNSHIP, ON) – On October 6, 2016 at approximately 2:20 p.m., officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Leeds County Detachment and the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) responded to a three vehicle collision involving an OPP cruiser and two civilian vehicles on Highway 401 in Front of Leeds and Thousand Island Township.

The operators of the civilian vehicles, a 78-year old male and a 43-year old male were each transported to hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The officer, who was from Leeds County Detachment and was operating the cruiser was transported to hospital as a precautionary measure.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation and is at present in the preliminary stages.

All eastbound lanes of Highway 401 re-opened at approximately 9:00 p.m.

As a result of the collision, the province’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU) was notified by the OPP and has invoked its mandate. Any further inquiries should be directed to SIU Communications at 416-622-2342.
