Crime Briefs – April 6, 2015

Type: Domestic/Break & Enter

Incident #: 15-9889

Location: Buffalo Street

Date: April 4, 2015

Incident: On April 4, 2015 at approximately 2:15 p.m. police received a 9-1-1 emergency call for help after a man had kicked open a door at a residence on Buffalo Street. The male had fled on foot prior to police arriving. Investigation revealed that the accused a 23 year old man who was the x-common law of the victim had been invited into the home on Buffalo Street. A verbal argument had ensued where the accused had temporarily left the residence and the female locked the doors refusing him return entry. The accused with great force kicked in the back door ripping it completely off the hinges and landing on the floor. The accused than pushed the victim against a wall subsequently cracking the drywall before he fled on foot. Community Patrol Officers searched the area and observed the accused from a distance in the area of Terrace Hill Street. The accused was believed to have run into an unknown backyard on Terrace Hill Street with intent to evade police. Officers set up containment in the area and BPS K9 team were called in and were able to track the accused hiding in a backyard on Terrace Hill Street. A 23 year old man from Ohsweken was arrested and charged with Assault, Mischief under $5,000.00, Break and Enter and Breach of Probation. The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Type: Impaired Driver

Date: April 4, 2015

Location: Icomm Drive

Incident: On April 4, 2015 shortly before 7:30 p.m. a citizen had followed a black Audi from Veteran’s Memorial Parkway to the Casino lot located on Icomm Drive. The citizen reported that the vehicle was being driven in and out of road lanes and believed was an impaired driver. Community Patrol Officers attended and located a 37 year old male passed out in the driver’s seat of the black Audi which was now parked in the rear lot. The driver had his head slouched down and drool from his mouth was observed. It took the Officers several attempts to wake the sleeping driver. The accused displayed signs of impairment and was arrested for having Care and Control of a Motor Vehicle while Impaired. The accused was transported to BPS where he provided two samples of his breath for analysis as required by law. The accused readings were 2 ½ times over the legal limit. The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days and he is charged with; Care and Control of a Motor Vehicle while Impaired and Over 80. The accused was released on a promise to appear in court.

Type: Injured Man

Date: April 5, 2015

Location: Garden Avenue

Incident: On Sunday April 5, 2015 at approximately 12:15 p.m. Community Patrol Officers attended in the area of Garden Avenue and Grey Street regarding a man who had been stabbed. A citizen driving home from church Sunday morning had telephoned 9-1-1 emergency after she observed a man standing in the middle of the road on Garden Avenue and other motorists were driving around the man. The concerned citizen pulled her vehicle over to assess the situation and observed that the man was severely injured, had wounds to his wrist and abdomen and a large pool of blood on the ground where the man stood. Ambulance attended and transported the injured man to a Hamilton hospital. Investigation revealed that the wounds were self-inflicted however there were no edged weapons found in the immediate area. The BPS K9 unit was dispatched to assist in the search with retracing the injured man’s steps. Officers were hopeful to gather valuable information as to where the man had come from and possibly find the weapon(s) involved. The BPS K9 team began a search of the area focusing on the train tracks on Garden Avenue. The K9 continued following the train tracks for approximately 2 km arriving at a location near Old Onondaga Road. The K9 team travelled off the gravel area next to the train tracks about 30 feet into a dense wooded area where the track came to rest at a large tree stump. It was at this location and area where two knives were located. One knife was located approximately 20 feet from the other. It is believed that the injuries were inflicted at this location and the injured man travelled by foot to Garden Avenue where a concerned citizen telephoned emergency services for the man. The K9 team tracked through a variety of terrain and was successful with finding evidence as well as confirming that no other person(s) were involved and/or injured as a result of this incident. The man suffered serious life-threatening injuries; however is expected to recover from his injuries.
