(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers are currently on scene investigating a two vehicle crash that took place early this evening. Shortly after 7:00 p.m. Huron County OPP officers and Huron County EMS responded to a fatal collision in Port Albert located on Bluewater Veteran’s Highway at Victoria Street.
The initial investigation has revealed a Chevrolet Traverse was southbound on Bluewater Veteran’s Highway when it collided with a deer that had entered onto the roadway. The impact of the collision sent the deer airborne into the path of a northbound Ford Escape whereupon the deer entered the interior compartment of the Escape and a struck a front seat passenger.
A female passenger in the Ford Escape was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Ford Escape was transported to hospital with minor injuries.
Two occupants in the Chevrolet Traverse were uninjured.
The identity of the deceased will be provided pending notification of next of kin.
Members from the OPP West Region Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Team (TTCI) are currently on scene investigating.
Bluewater Veteran’s Highway is currently closed between Drury Lane to the north and Ashfield Street to the South.
