Crash Sends 3 To Hospital

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) On Sunday, September 15, 2013, shortly before 3 p.m. Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were called to a three vehicle collision at the intersection of Hwy 23 and Line 84 South of Listowel.

Investigation revealed that a KIA Forte operated by a 24 year old female of the Municipality of North Perth travelled south bound on Hwy 23, when she attempted to turn east onto Line 84. Line 84 was closed for the annual “Terry Fox Run”, resulting in the KIA Forte not being able to clear the north bound lane of Hwy 23. A KIA Forte, driving north bound on Hwy 23, operated by an 84 year old male from the Municipality of North Perth, struck the passenger side of the first KIA that was stopped across the north bound lane.

After the initial impact, the north bound KIA struck a Municipality of North Perth Public Works Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that was stopped on Line 84.

Both KIA drivers were transported to Listowel Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, while the 81 year old female passenger of the north bound KIA was taken to Listowel Memorial Hospital with major injuries. The Public Works employee was uninjured.

The 24 year old female operating the south bound KIA has been charged with “left turn-fail to afford reasonable opportunity to avoid collision”.
