Counterfeit Money Alert

(MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ON) – On the evening of February 18, 2016, the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were contacted regarding counterfeit money.

Police responded to a private citizen in a business in the 22600 block of Komoka Road, who reported that they had exchanged Canadian currency for a $100 American bill, which was later confirmed by a bank as counterfeit.

Police subsequently located four commercial businesses in the 9800 and 9900 blocks of Glendon Drive, and the 11500 block of Longwoods Road, where culprit(s) attempted, and in three instances successfully used, suspected counterfeit $100 dollar American bills for purchases on February 17, 2016, and February 19, 2016.

The Middlesex County OPP previously investigated similar incidents on February 4, 2016, in Thames Centre, Ontario, which resulted in the arrest of a young person.

The Middlesex County OPP continues to investigate these most recent incidents.

All suspected counterfeit U.S. bank notes must be turned over to police. Timely reporting helps police and prosecutors bring counterfeiters to justice.
