On Tuesday evening, a male attended two separate retail outlets on Mapleview Drive West using counterfeit $100.00 bills to pay for purchases. In each case the male male selected merchandise and attended the checkout area, he then proffered the counterfeit money. In the first case the clerk detected the counterfeit. The suspect left empty handed. In the second occurrence the male made a $20.00purchase and received $80.00 in change leaving the store before the clerk realized the money was counterfeit. The suspect is described as male white, 20-30 years of age, stocky biuld, approxiamtely 5’8 tall with a bald head. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Barrie Police or Crimestoppers. Retailers are being encouraged to be aware that counterfeit $100.00 bills are circulating in the area. The Bank of Canada website provides helpful tips regarding the detection of counterfeit currency.”
