Our Community continues to suffer the consequences of no standards and a rash of CAOs that blindly side with town staff instead of holding them to account. Our infrastructure rots and crumbles while our CAOs have demanded raises and bonuses for staff.
It is clearly obvious that several department heads have failed so massively our Community is almost destroyed. No infrastructure reserves means we have no money to fix things, and won’t for many, many years to come. That is the fault of the CAO and council for refusing to hold department heads to account, as prescribed by law in the Municipal Act (section224)
When it was revealed earlier this year that Public Works Director kelly church had no standards, church should have resigned out of pure shame and embarrassment. This is only one in a string of failings of our disgraced public works director kelly church. Remember the Reid Rd recycle debacle, Reid Rd tar and chip fiasco, obstructed stop signs, refusing to maintain Howson dam, untreated asphalt cracks that turn into massive potholes, two “men” to empty our tiny trash cans, blocked sidewalks in Community Safety Zones, no reserves, condition of Edward and Centre Streets, etc. etc.
Why hasn’t council acted yet? It is clear kelly church has failed on monumental scale, yet he is still here. The truth is that councillors are afraid to speak up and do what is right, simply because they get virtually zero support when they try.
If you want change, you must support those on council that want to see our Community put back on the right track, and it starts with a new Director Of Public Works, along with ending our $250,000/year economic development experiment.
