(ST.MARYS, ON) On Tuesday July 22, 2014, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., five Ministry of Transportation inspectors, two Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Western Region Highway Safety Division Officers and three Perth County OPP officers, conducted a Commercial Motor Vehicle Blitz in and around St.Marys.
Officers stopped commercial vehicles within and around the Town conducting checks on the vehicles. Vehicles with suspected mechanical issues were escorted to a Water St. South parking lot (near St.Marys Cement), where detailed inspections were conducted.
Eleven vehicles were inspected by the Ministry of Transportation resulting in the removal of plates from two of the vehicles while four of the nine other inspected vehicles were removed from the roadway. (With the necessary repairs these four trucks would be allowed back onto the road).
In total MTO officers laid 11 charges while OPP officers laid 9 charges on offending truck drivers or their companies.
The Ministry of Transportation and the OPP take road safety very seriously they will continue working together making our roads as safe as possible.
