(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) – On Wednesday July 29, 2015, around 7:40 p.m., a serious two vehicle crash took place at the intersection of Perth Road 180 and Line 36. Perth County EMS personnel, the Municipality of West Perth Fire Dept., and Huron and Perth Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers attended the scene.
Investigation revealed that a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe was travelling north bound on Perth Road 180 and approached intersection of Line 36. A 2013 GMC Sierra pickup truck travelling west bound on Line 36 proceeded into the intersection and collided with the passenger side of the Tahoe. The impact caused both vehicles to enter and come to rest in a field on the north-west corner of the intersection.
The 61-year-old male driver of the Tahoe was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries while his 62-year-old female passenger was transported by air ambulance to a London hospital with major injuries. Both Tahoe occupants were residents of the Municipality of Huron East. The 38-year-old male driver of the Sierra, a Wellesley resident was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Traffic was diverted around the intersection until shortly after midnight allowing for OPP Western Region Technical Traffic Investigators to investigate the collision and for the vehicles and debris to be cleared from the scene. Investigation into this collision remains ongoing.
The Perth County OPP can’t stress enough that motorists need to be cognizant of their actions at the over 1,000 stop sign controlled intersections within Perth County. Many intersections have “two way stops”, which often control the crossing of roads with speed limits of 80 km/h. (The higher the speed, the greater the possibility of serious injury or death when drivers fail to stop and yield at these locations).
At stop sign controlled intersections, you must come to a stop, look, and avoid distractions. Driving demands your full attention.
