Collision On Hwy 17

(MARATHON, ON) –Members of the Marathon detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated two separate motor vehicle collisions that occurred on Highway 17 in less than a twenty four hour period. One collision occurred on August 2, 2016 at Highway 17, Bomby Township and one collision occurred on August 3, 2016 at Highway 17, Coldwell Township. The incidents were single motor vehicle collisions that resulted in vehicle occupants being injured.

Marathon OPP want to remind motorists that your safety, and the safety of other motorists on the road, is priority. When you are operating a motor vehicle, make that the only thing you are doing. Some driving safety tip reminders include:

Seatbelts –be sure that every occupant of your vehicle is wearing one

Be alert – check mirrors and blind spots regularly when turning, changing lanes, or overtaking a slower motor vehicle, know your surroundings

Speed limits – are posted for a reason, follow them

Distracted driving – the only thing that should be in front of you is the road, texts, calls, and cell phone alerts can wait

Impaired driving – costs lives, if you’re going to drink, don’t drive

Well rested – pull into a roadside rest or take a break if you’re tired, take turns driving on long trips

Drive according to road and weather conditions

Being a safe driver isn’t about avoiding a ticket from the police, it’s about arriving at your destination.
