(WHITBY, ON) – Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Highway Safety Division (HSD) – Whitby Detachment, are investigating a three vehicle collision that resulted in serious injuries to one occupant.
On Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at approximately 5:44 p.m., the OPP received a call of a collision on Highway 12 just south of Scugog Line 3, in Scugog Township.
A northbound vehicle on Highway 12 approached stopped traffic and entered the southbound lanes where it collided head on with a southbound vehicle. Another vehicle collided with the southbound vehicle after the initial collision.
The northbound vehicle subsequently entered the ditch and rolled onto its roof before coming to rest.
The passenger in the first southbound vehicle, a 38 year old man from Little Britain Ontario sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to a trauma centre in Toronto. The drivers from the involved vehicles only sustained minor injuries.
The OPP HSD Traffic Support Unit is assisting with the investigation. Highway 12 was closed for several hours during the investigation and clean-up. Any witnesses of this collision are asked to contact the Whitby OPP Detachment – (905) 668-3388.
