Collision On Highway 401

(THAMES CENTRE, ON) – The Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision which occurred on December 2, 2014 at approximately 7:27 a.m. on Highway 401, west of Dorchester Road.

A red Ford pickup truck merged from the Dorchester on-ramp onto Highway 401, and was travelling westbound in the outside lane, when it was struck from behind by a white International box truck, which was also travelling westbound on Highway 401 in the outside lane.

The initial collision caused the pickup to strike the rear of a transport truck ahead of it, also travelling westbound.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 34 year old male from Thames Centre, Ontario, was transported to hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries. The other two drivers did not sustain any injuries.

The outside and middle lanes of westbound Highway 401 west of Dorchester Road were closed for approximately one and a half hours. The lanes have since been re-opened.

As a result of the investigation, the driver of the box truck, a 43 year old male from Etobicoke, Ontario, has been charged with careless driving, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

He is scheduled to appear in a London court to answer to the charge.
