Collingwood Weekend Wrap Up

(Collingwood and The Blue Mountains, Ontario) Officers from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to 169 calls for service from noon on Friday the 9th of August and this morning at 7:00am.

During this time period officers charged two motorist with impaired driving offences. The first one occurring on Friday night, the 9th of August 2013, shortly before 11:00pm when officers conducted a vehicle stop on First Street at Maple Street in Collingwood. Interactions with the driver found that he was under the influence of alcohol and as such he was arrested and transported to Collingwood detachment for processing. Charged with impaired and ‘over 80’ is 24 year-old Andrew TAYLOR of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, he is to appear in Collingwood court on the 10th of September 2013.

The second impaired driving incident took place on Saturday night shortly after 11:00pm when officers stopped to investigate an immobilized vehicle on the shoulder of Highway 26 near Grey Road 40 in The Blue Mountains. Upon speaking to the driver it was found that he was under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and tranported to Collingwood detachment for processing. Charged with impaired and ‘over 80’ is 24 year-old Taylor WOOD of Sudbury, he is to appear in Owen Sound court on the 12th of September 2013.

The Collingwood/The Blue Mountains OPP Marine Unit was also out this weekend enforcing boating safety rules and ensuring the safety of everyone enjoying the waterways. One boater had his driver’s license suspended for 3 days after he was found to be within the warn range for drinking and driving, or in this case, boating. He was also charged with a Collingwood by-law charge relating to the use of the harbour and also a charge under the Canada Shipping Act (CSA).

A motorist also had his license suspended for 3 days after he was found to be within the warn range. This took place at 10:50pm on the 10th of August 2013 on Poplar Sideroad near High Street during a RIDE check.

Police also dealt with 21 liquor license act incidents ranging from having open liquor in a public place to being intoxicated in public, some were incarcerated overnight for the said offence until sober. All persons involved in those incidents were issued Provincial Offences Notices ‘tickets’ for the said offences.
