Cody ADAMS – Extortion, Assault, Theft

(ORILLIA, ON) – The Orillia Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with the assistance of the Orillia Street Crime Unit has arrested a male after an altercation in the City of Orillia.

On March 18, 2015 at approximately 8:58 a.m., Orillia OPP was contacted in relation to an assault and theft from an Orillia bar. Officers spoke with the victim who advised that he was at the Encore bar on Mississaga Street last night when he was assaulted. The victim did not report the incident to police at that time.

The victim could not locate his cell phone in the morning so he called its number in an attempt to find it. A male party answered the phone and told the victim that he would have to pay $40 to have his phone returned. The victim contacted police and reported the incident.

It turns out that the male in possession of the phone was the same male that had assaulted the victim the night before. Undercover officers set up a meeting with the suspect to retrieve the phone and were there to arrest him when he arrived.

Cody ADAMS, 21 years old of Barrie, has been charged with Assault, Extortion, Theft Under $5000 and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.

He was released on a Promise to Appear in Orillia court on April 28, 2015.
