Clinton Hospital Goes Into Lockdown

(Central Huron, ON) On May 28, 2009 at approximately 7:00 pm, Huron OPP officers were dispatched to the Clinton Hospital in regards to a young male walking past the emergency department carrying a rifle. The staff at the hospital proceeded to start lock down procedures at the hospital, as the witness believed that the weapon was real.

Numerous police units responded. The male was later located at a residence in Clinton. Despite the fact that the weapon was later located inside a vehicle and determined to be a pellet gun that fires plastic pellets, arrests were made and charges were laid.

Brandon Weitzel (18) of Central Huron will be returning to Goderich Court on July 20, 2009 to answer to one count of Breach Probation.

A 40 year old Central Huron male associated to the incident was also located and arrested for outstanding warrants. He was held in police custody pending a bail hearing on May 29, 2009.

A 16 year old Central Huron male was also charged with Breach Probation in relation to the incident. He will appear in Goderich Youth Court at a later date.

The male never attempted to enter the hospital and it was determined that he had been transporting the weapon from one location to another. The weapon was seized by police. LP09128606
