The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following an incident in Chatham last night.
On September 4, 2012, the man entered into a probation order with several conditions as a result of a domestic related incident. Two of those conditions stated that he was not to associate or communicate with a former girlfriend and not to attend within 25 metres of her residence.
Shortly after 7:00 p.m. last night, the man attended the woman’s residence and asked to speak with her. The woman did not allow the man entrance and advised him that she was calling the police. The man fled the area prior to police arrival. Around 2:00 a.m. this morning, police located the man walking in the area of Sandy Street and McNaughton Avenue West. As the officers placed the man under arrest, the man started running. The CKPS K9 Unit tracked the man and he was located hiding underneath a deck on Timmins Crescent. The man was given the opportunity to surrender and was made aware that K9 Arry would be utilized should he fail to come out. The man failed to comply and K9 Arry was utilized to effect the arrest. The man was taken into custody and removed from underneath the deck.
The 28-year-old Chatham man was transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for medical attention of a minor dog bite to his leg and small cut above his eye. He was treated and released. The man has been charged with two counts of breach of probation, escape lawful custody and resist arrest. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
