The City of London’s Town and Gown Committee will hold a public meeting Wednesday Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers to address issues and seek solutions to concerns in neighbourhoods near Western University and Fanshawe College.
“The public participation meeting will allow all stakeholders an opportunity to listen, discuss the issues and find common ground,†said Coun. Matt Brown, Town and Gown Chair. “As a group, we share so many priorities important to our community and it’s my hope we can all play a role in building a broader level strategy moving forward.â€Â
The meeting comes after London Police Chief Brad Duncan recently announced his commitment to refocus police efforts, to strengthen educational and proactive measures and to work cooperatively with student associations and university and college administrations to reduce the behaviours that require a specific enforcement response.
Instead, the Chief has encouraged students to get engaged and be accountable in their neighbourhoods and to reduce the need for police involvement.
There will be presentations at the meeting from Police, the Student Councils as well as any interested Londoner who wishes to speak.
The Town and Gown Committee serves as a forum for the exchange of information on issues and initiatives involving Western, Fanshawe, the City and the local community and recommends potential responses to common concerns.
