(GODERICH, ON) – A 21 year old male is facing additional charges after he assaulted and tried to escape from an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Special Constable on June 25, 2014. The prisoner made his scheduled court appearance at the Huron County Courthouse and was denied bail. Shortly afterward, as he was being escorted back to the cell area he pushed the Special Constable and temporarily broke free from the officers. The prisoner attempted to escape custody but he did not get very far as he was wearing leg shackles and tripped over his feet. He was taken back into custody and returned to jail.
As a result, Christopher JOHNSTON, 21 years of age from Goderich has been charged with Assault a Peace Officer, Escape Lawful Custody and Fail to Comply with a Probation Order. He remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on July 7, 2014.
