Christmas Eve Fire Update – All Victims Now Found

(DOURO-DUMMER TOWNSHIP, ON) – Investigators from the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management (OFMEM) have located two additional persons in the debris of a Stoney Lake cottage which was destroyed by a Christmas Eve fire. All victims, believed to have been in the home at the time of the fire, have now been recovered by emergency service workers.

With the assistance of a Forensic Anthropologist from the Centre of Forensic Sciences, the bodies of the three recovered persons have been transported to the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Services (OCC-OFPS) in Toronto. Post mortem examinations will be conducted to assist in the formal identification of the deceased persons and to assist in the determination of the causes of death. One person has not yet been transported to the centre.

Investigative efforts are continuing today but may be slowed by a forecast for freezing rain in the Peterborough County area.
