CHERRY – Dangerous Driving, Impaired Driving

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – This morning at 8:36 am a driving complaint was received by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) of a vehicle all over the road, heading eastbound on Highway 7 towards Omemee.

Prior to officers arriving on scene the vehicle had pulled into a residential area in Omemee immediately adjacent to Scott Young Public School. Traffic and pedestrian volume in the area was high due to the start of the school day. A number of concerned drivers had followed the vehicle into the area and were able to prevent the driver from continuing. Thanks to their actions nobody was injured.

OPP officers arrived a short time later and the driver of the vehicle, 49 year old Dwayne CHERRY of Lindsay was arrested and charged with Dangerous Driving of a Motor Vehicle contrary to section 249(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC) and Drive While Ability Impaired by Drug contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the CCC.

The accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on May 19, 2016.
