The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 123 calls for service in the past 24 hours. Five people were arrested.
Man Charged with Dangerous Driving CK15015416
The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following a traffic complaint last night in Blenheim.
Around 8:15 p.m. a Blenheim youth was standing on the grass boulevard near John Street and Hall Street. The man approached the youth in his vehicle and accelerated into the oncoming lane. He drove directly towards the youth, passing and narrowly missing him. The man squealed his tires and circled around the block. As he returned to the youth’s location, he threatened him and then sped away.
The youth reported the incident as he knew the man responsible. Just before 10:30 p.m. officers located the man on Talbot Trail and he was taken into custody.
The 22-year-old Blenheim man has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and uttering threats. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Man Charged with Being in Possession of Stolen Property CK15015278
The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following the recovery of stolen property.
Last night, police received permission from a woman to search her vehicle. A men’s Norco mountain bike and several power tools were located in the vehicle. Through investigation, police learned that the bike had been reported stolen in April and the tools were reported stolen in May. Police further learned that the woman’s son had been using her vehicle.
Just before 2:00 a.m. this morning, police located the man on Park Avenue East in Chatham. He was taken into custody for breaching his curfew and trespassing on this specific property.
The 29-year-old Dover Township man has been charged with failing to comply, trespassing and two counts of being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Woman Charged with Driving with No Insurance CK15015403
Last night around 7:15 p.m. an officer was travelling eastbound on Lorne Avenue in Chatham when he observed a Ford Expedition in front of him. A query of the licence plates revealed that the insurance status was unconfirmed. The officer initiated a traffic stop to further investigate.
The woman insisted she had proper coverage and produced an insurance card that appeared valid. The officer contacted her insurance company and learned that her policy was cancelled in November 2014.
The 50-year-old Chatham woman was charged with operating a motor vehicle on a highway with no insurance and knowingly using an invalid insurance card.
